Honestly the lore I am formulating at this point is becoming so unhinged- however it does feel honest.

August has been perhaps one of the busiest but most colourful months of my life to date. From subway rides and Met museum wonders in NY to clay pigeon shooting and scenic cavorts through Welsh valleys. A brief return to my home county of Norfolk between work trips and 2 flitting visits to Edinburgh for the Fringe festival. I have only been at ‘home’ in my Glasgow flat for less than 10 days of the month so if I seem tired it’s because I am. Hope it’s a wonderful September for all 🫶.

The past month has been utter madness, but the incredibly beautiful kind. I turned 31, continued my normal back and forth between Glasgow and Edinburgh. I got a new job (but had to keep working my old job as I was transitioning from weekly to monthly pay and literally couldn’t afford to quit 💀), travelled down to London twice, visited the Isle of May to see puffins for the first time, trekked Alva Glen in Clackmannanshire, explored a relic from yesteryear in Cardross and ticked some Welsh towns off my visit list. I petted a sufficient number of cats, hugged a sufficient amount of beautiful humans (and trees), met drag legend; Sasha Velour and collaborated on some drag and photography gigs which filled my wee creative heart right up. Bring on the next half of ‘26!

A few weeks ago I road tripped up to Inverness and had a fun test shoot with the ever so modelesque @kaja.orania. This image was originally shot with red colour gels (see the second image). I did something I’ve never done before and decided to completely desaturate this manually added colour in Photoshop. The result completely took me by surprise as it created this beautiful tonality and glow to her skin. I really can’t pick which I prefer, the original lighting or the black and white. What do you think? ❤️🩶

First month as a Glasgow resident has been all kinds of lovely! It’s been a journey to get here which makes this contentment I can feel myself easing into feel all the more deserved. Anyone that knows me well will know that the end of 25’ and start of ‘26 represented an extremely tolling time on my mental health. Even now, that heaviness still lingers some days. But behind those clouds there has been this undeniable sense of hope that’s emerged as I set up my new wee flat. Thank you to the beautiful people who have ridden this wave with me- it feels good to be here with you ❤️.

It’s truly been a cathartic process for me and I hope for visitors of the exhibition too. Honestly such a privilege to show my photography alongside some immense queer talent in eastern England. Big thanks to @rachelmcw and @trish.fried.rice and @stmargaretsgallery for the curation of ‘Surface Tension’ and for platforming queer creatives. A full heart indeedy ❤️. 𝕾𝖙𝖊𝖊𝖑 𝕭𝖑𝖔𝖔𝖒 Self Portrait

In 2026 I cry more than I’ve ever cried before, I’m more open with my feelings and struggles and I’m proud of the ‘feminine’ way in which I present to the world. I also feel like the toughest and most gritty version of myself by a long way. Perhaps contradictory to what the world around me tries to tell me, I don’t believe these things dispute each other.

We’re fed this narrative that stereotypically ‘masculine’ traits such as dominance, assertion and physical endurance are seen as strength and something we should strive for. Conversely, more ‘feminine’ traits such as emotional vulnerability and a sensitivity to ourselves and others are seen as weakness or being ‘too soft’ (as if that were a negative thing). My human experience to date now defies this notion and I see that as such a privilege.

I still get it wrong. Even in recent weeks, following interactions with men- I’ve questioned if maybe I would have been better received if I tried to deepen my voice or dress with less flair. I constantly try to swat away these thoughts but we’re talking about generations of misogyny to unlearn here. We can only try our best- but collectively let’s remember that if we want to talk about the idea that ‘masculinity’ is strength, that it takes a great amount of bravery and self assurance to communicate your feelings clearly, to accept fault in a conflict or to have the openness to change your opinion on something (all of which are currently perceived as more ‘female’ characteristics).

So as I move forward into my 30s with all my limp wristed tenacity I remind myself that I now have the courage to be the most unapologetically feminine version of myself and that in turn makes me more of a man than I’ve ever been. It truly makes you realise that these words really have no place in modern society and that any notions relating to the way we think, feel or present ourselves to the world should not be tied to what’s between our legs.

Super chuffed to share that my photographic series ‘Behind the Gay Best Friend’ has been selected to be displayed at @stmargaretsgallery as part of the @queerfestnorwich ‘Surface Tension’ exhibition.

Growing up in Norwich in the late 90s/early 2000s I had no exposure to queer identities and culture or even an understanding of what that meant. To come back to Norwich as an adult, assured in my identity and empowered by my queerness- it feels cathartic to exhibit this deeply personal work alongside the art of other LGBTQIA+ creatives.

Reflections about Norfolk that I wrote some months back:

“Upon taking my two best friends to my hometown for the first time they were baffled as to how I could navigate the country roads so well despite not living here for nearly 20 years. My response is, how could I not? Despite travelling to several corners of the world and seeing so much- this marshy farmland is inexplicably bound to who I am. It’s the earth in which I grew from. It’s the buildings, people and crawling landscapes here that perforated my brain as it developed. I’ve lived in somewhat urban areas now for about 10 years yet I still find myself constantly trying to escape the city. Quieten the loud. Breathe in the freshness. Revel in the serene. The body remembers.”

A year ago today I pressed the hard reset button on my life and moved back to the UK. A highlights reel doesn’t do the year justice so I also also wrote a letter to myself a year ago (sappy gay incoming 🙋‍♂️).

“Adam, I know you often struggle to feel proud of yourself but for achieving this I am so proud of you. In a matter of months, with a shoestring budget and a prayer you have been able to find the means to pave the way for a new adventure for yourself, reclaiming your narrative and doing something for you. Moving to the other side of the world won’t fix your mental health- this will continue to be tested in ways you can’t predict, but you will be okay- you have to believe that. You will have two of the most remarkable women standing beside you to keep cheering you on. Don’t take for granted the privilege it is to embark on this new adventure with two of your dearest by your side, you will all need each other this year. You’ve made the right decision wanting to buy a car here, you won’t be able to sit still and you will fall in love with rugged landscapes, ancient castles, historic passages and warm souls. You will grow in ways you can’t comprehend, reconnect with people and places from your past whilst also welcoming some new characters to the story too. You will also be tested as you face new struggles with your physical health but thank God that GP appointments and prescriptions are free in the UK! Have courage and be kind you curious soul! Don’t hold back.“

I was showing a friend some of my old work from university last night. These particular images were plucked from my first (and only) series I exhibited in a gallery space and it essentially featured a collection of baroque inspired scenes of women yearning or breaking down in some manner (relatable content). I often find it hard to look at old work but truth be told, I would probably still make this today but with the knowledge and experience I have 9 years on (and perhaps with a few less 2010 fashion moments in something that is supposed to be baroque inspired 🤣).

I wasn’t going to post this because I felt ashamed and embarrassed but I’ve really had to remind myself that there is nothing shameful about having mental illness and the more openly we talk about it the more we promote knowledge and understanding. My mental illness’ does not define me however it has been something I have carried since as long as I can remember so whether I like it or not it is part of my journey. To get to the point, sadly my time with the Royal Scotsman was cut short due to the nature of the job being incompatible with my mental heath. Long days in a confined space with little reprieve proved to be the perfect recipe for my brain to play tricks on me. Truthfully I am gutted as I worked my butt off for this job and at its core really enjoyed the nature of the work. As much as I am devastated to have stepped away from something I thought was going to be a long term chapter in my life- I know I have made the best decision for my health and happiness moving forward. No matter how rare and exciting an opportunity something is, it’s okay to choose you. No job, relationship or amount of money is ever worth sacrificing your sense of self. Despite things turning out not as expected I am grateful for this short chapter as I have been able to meet some incredible people and experience some things I otherwise never would have. The people who work on this train create absolute magic and It’s been a privilege to play even just a small part in this Scottish legacy.

I wasn’t going to post this because I felt ashamed and embarrassed but I’ve really had to remind myself that there is nothing shameful about having mental illness and the more openly we talk about it the more we promote knowledge and understanding. My mental illness’ does not define me however it has been something I have carried since as long as I can remember so whether I like it or not it is part of my journey. To get to the point, sadly my time with the Royal Scotsman was cut short due to the nature of the job being incompatible with my mental heath. Long days in a confined space with little reprieve proved to be the perfect recipe for my brain to play tricks on me. Truthfully I am gutted as I worked my butt off for this job and at its core really enjoyed the nature of the work. Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of working with my friend @zanabaklava to photograph her @disappointmentmagazine fundraiser party in my hometown of Norwich. Was such a wholesome and aggressively queer event and I got to meet some wonderful humans like this cool kid and creative; @trish.fried.rice ❤️🎨

My gorgeous and talented friend @___mon.sal (@draw.ingsbymon) surprised me with a drawing of my f@ggy look from my birthday weekend 🥹. She was very complimentary but honestly now I’ve entered a new decade l need all the ego boosts I can get 🧓🏻. With the toxic gay beauty standards that exist I’m basically a senior citizen now so I’m very excited to enjoy my retirement xx.
